How to hire a UBC student: Four UBC resources for community partners

Does your organization need extra help this year? Consider hiring a student from UBC.

Whether for an internship, volunteer role, or paid position, UBC offers several ways for organizations to hire talented students from both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan. Explore different resources below.

UBC Career Center (UBC Vancouver)

The UBC Centre for Careers helps employers connect with students on and off campus. Opportunities include:

  • Hosting an employer information session (virtual or in-person on campus)
  • Hosting a booth at UBC Career Fairs
  • Participating in networking events.

Careers Online

Advertise full-time, part-time, internship, or volunteer positions any time of the year for free on CareersOnline.

If you have any questions about using CareersOnline or the UBC Career Centre drop them an email at recruit.talent@ubc.ca

academic & Career Development (UBC Okanagan)

If you or your organization are in the Okanagan, UBCO’s Academic & Career Development office can help you connect with talented and passionate students. Share your opportunities through the UBC Okanagan job board.

If you need any more guidance or assistance, please email: careerdevelopment.ubco@ubc.ca

UBC Co-op program

UBC offers the largest co-op program in Western Canada. Access dynamic, qualified and passionate students from diverse disciplines from both UBCV and UBCO. Contact the UBC Co-op office to learn more about recruiting UBC students from specific faculties for co-op positions. UBC Co-op work terms are typically 4-12 months long.

External Funding Opportunities

Lastly, don’t forget to explore various sources of funding available to support your organization’s journey in hiring students — especially for longer term placements like co-op or internships.

And it is never too early to start planning for your summer projects. The deadline for Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations is typically early-mid January! Plan ahead to leverage these opportunities.
